Pilates

The method called “internal art” (drawing on the Zen tradition and many types of exercises, including tai chi, yoga, ballet and gymnastics) focuses on improving flexibility, increasing strength and strengthening deep muscles through controlled and isolated movements (from the so-called “core”) and by stimulating body awareness.
The exercises are intended to improve posture and body movement patterns, reducing the load on the spine and other joints.

What are Pilates exercises?

During Pilates training, using various types of equipment (balls, wheels, rollers and more "professional Pilates equipment, such as beds, chairs, etc.) or working only with your own body weight, we focus on:

- postural symmetry (position) - work with breathing,
- central strength ("core")
- strength and stability of individual body segments (spine, pelvis, shoulders, head)
- well-differentiated muscle tension along with freedom of movement based on the full range and mobility in the joints (Mobility & Stability).

According to the assumptions of the creator of this method (Joseph Pilates), this type of exercise is based on the following components:

> concentration ("presence here and now"/detail),
> control (related to micro movements in the body),
> precision (combining physical and mental work - visualization - provides a basis for creating new neural pathways),
> fluid movement (precision that becomes a habit leads to fluidity and well-organized movement),
> centering (deep postural support of the "center" muscles /hara, dantian/ leads to dynamic stability),
> conscious work with breathing (visible in the spine area informs about any disturbance in its rhythm, and working on it in return improves its flow in the body.

Who are the exercises recommended for?

– those who want to improve their bodywork technique and learn how to properly engage the core muscles
– those who are returning to mobility after injuries (as a form of rehabilitation)
– those who want to strengthen their entire body (especially the abdominal and spine muscles) through various stabilization exercises (improving their figure)
– those who are looking for “peace and focus” through conscious work with their own body

Pilates exercises are a combination of body and mind work at a given moment, while performing them. They are recommended for anyone who wants to improve their flexibility and mobility with strength. They also help in the ability to discover their own technique during any other physical activity.
